The jury is currently hearing the closing arguments of the prosecution and defense lawyers in the Casey Anthony trial and, based on everything I have heard, she will be, and should be, found guilty. I shall be brief in giving some of the reasons why.
First and foremost, Casey Anthony should be, and will be, found guilty because she IS guilty. The physical evidence damns her in every way, regardless of the facile attempts of her lawyer to discredit it. Even if it did not, no parent, not even the most callous, disinterested parent, would go out partying in the days after their child goes missing if they were innocent. Casey did this and had pictures taken while she was “letting her hair down”. This was not only sickening beyond belief to me, but also displayed a level of solipsism and detachment that marks her as a truly evil person.
Next were her lies. Casey Anthony lied so many times to her family and the authorities that I will be surprised if she will ever be able to get clear in her head which story she told, to whom and when. I have little doubt that she remembers the truth, for surely the murder of an innocent child could never be forgotten, but it is doubtful that she would ever be able to fully reconstruct the web of deceit she has spun, even if her life depended upon it. Each time a lie was discovered she created a new one; this is truly a sign of how horrendous an excuse for a human she really is.
Finally, for the sake of brevity in this short piece, I also believe she will be convicted of the top count because of her lawyer. We all remember the promise he made in his opening statement that Casey was abused at the hands of her father and brother. The greatest failing of her lawyer, on top of courtroom antics and an apparent lack of knowledge of many laws and procedural rules, was that he never delivered on this promise; he never even came close. That will damn both lawyer and client----I have always stuck by what I was taught years ago: it is good to have the jury like you, although you should not waste too much effort on it, however, you must spare no effort to prevent the jury disliking you.
Baez called a grieving, one time suicidal grandfather a child molester and then produced NO evidence to support that contention. This is fatal to the case. The jury will not like him and will like his client even less, for they will surely know where this hate filled allegation was concocted: in the mind of the woman who would not know truth if it slapped her in the face and said “hello, I’m the truth”.
There are many reasons why Casey Anthony should, and I stick my neck out here saying, and will be found guilty of first degree murder—these are just a few. I hope that the jury is quick in finding her guilty and then moving onto the sentencing phase. Unlike many, I want to see her receive life in prison, in the general population, rather than death. I say this, not because I am some handwringing opponent of the death penalty, but because I know how child murderers are treated in general population of the prison system and I think that would truly be a fate worse than death; one she richly deserves.
I think Baez could have convinced the jury to go manslaughter if he had let the ego go, convinced his client to plead for forgiveness and show some remorse. She would then have some time out of prison. i think she will be convicted and get death!
ReplyDeleteCasey Anthony needs to be executed plain and simple. She is a baby killer and baby killers deserve to die.
ReplyDeleteYou're sticking your neck out on this. I think she is guilty but will be found not guilty.
ReplyDeleteBaez has shown himself to be a great lawyer and I predict that Casey will go free. THis was an accident and everyone who watched the trial knows it.
ReplyDeleteAndy..are you kidding? An accident? While I think she will be spared the death penalty, I heard nothing from either side to even suggest that Caylee's death was accidental.
ReplyDeleteBoy, we are so quick to judge! However, it really would be something if she is found NOT guilty!
ReplyDeleteI am sure she is not guilty. This looks and feels like an accident that was covered up and then she panicked and did not know what to do. I hope she is set free.
ReplyDeleteIt seems ironic that the person who supported the killing of Bin Laden now comes out against the possible killing of a woman who killed her child. What about all the babies killed by drone attacks in the middle east? Your hypocrisy and bias is really showing. You make me sick!
ReplyDeleteSo what if she went out partying. Have you ever lost a kid, she could have been in shock. I hope this jury does the right thing and lets her go free. This young woman has suffered enough.
ReplyDeleteAnything less than death in this case would be an insult to the dead baby, Caylee. Her mother did the crime now she needs to face the ultimate penalty. It is just a shame that they did away with the electric chair in the Sunshine State. I also think that to really deter criminals and to help the budget, they should cut out appeals and put the executions on pay per view so we can see justice been done. I would pay good money to watch her die for what she did!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous: He may be quick to judge but at least we know where he stands. Also, if Casey Anthony is found NOT guilty then something is seriously wrong with the justice system in Florida.
ReplyDeleteI hope she burns in hell for what she did to that precious little girl and if the jury finds her innocent I hope they see the video of her crying on cue when they were in and not crying when they were out.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately you were incorrect, it saddens me and the vast majority of America. It just goes to show you how far down the toilet the Justice System has gone...
ReplyDeleteAre you eating your words???
